Mom gets 15 years in prison after lengthy sexual affair with teen

Updated: Sep 30, 2016 - 11:25 AM

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - A Forsyth County mother will spend 15 years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender after admitting she not only lured her daughter’s 15-year-old boyfriend into a sexual relationship, but also went to great lengths to hide it.

Kathy Tompa said very little during a plea hearing Thursday in Forsyth County Superior Court.

Prosecutors told a judge that Tompa began to groom the teen for sex not long after he started dating her own daughter.

“She began touching him on the leg, touching him on the back, touching him on the shoulders,” assistant Forsyth County prosecutor Heather Dunn told the judge. “She was advising him on how to kiss her daughter, how to touch her daughter, when would be an appropriate time to touch her buttocks, what would be the appropriate time and manner to remove her shirt.”

Dunn said Tompa and the boy exchanged explicit texts and that in December 2015, and she invited him to her home late one night, while her husband was away on business, in order to have sex with him.

Investigators said the relationship went on for six months before it was discovered.

Dunn told the judge the teen’s parents began to notice changes in him and that his grades were slipping, so they took away his electronics.

That’s when she said Tompa bought him a cell phone and installed Facebook and Snapchat on it so she could continue to communicate with him.

When the teen found himself locked out of the house one night after a sexual encounter, Dunn said Tompa offered to bring him a ladder over to help him get back into his house.

Dunn even alleged Tompa had a breast enlargement to entice the teen.

The boy’s mother, who we are not identifying, had strong words for Tompa.

“She called herself my friend and then she raped my boy,” she said. “She stole my son’s innocence. She stole his childhood. I’m angry with her and I’m angry with myself.”

The teen’s mother said he’s undergoing extensive counseling over what happened and had to move out of Forsyth County because of the humiliation the situation caused him.

“The defendant’s actions not only devastated my son -- this tore apart my family,” she said.
